The "Driver CPC" is the name that has been applied to the training requirements outlined in European Directive 2003/59/EC - "Initial qualification and periodic training for drivers of road vehicles for the carriage of goods and passengers."
The requirement came into force 10th September 2008 for bus and coach drivers and 10th September 2009 for lorry drivers. Existing drivers will have "grandfather rights" to Driver CPC but they will still have to complete a minimum of 35 hours (5 training days) of approved training with five years to retain the qualification. The 35 hours is to be made up of approved courses that correspond to driver and organisational needs and are drawn from the Driver CPC syllabus.
