For a varied and interesting job, you can’t beat the role of the Transport Manager. The job may sometimes get hectic but you will never be bored and you will occupy a key position in the company. Getting people from A to B whether it is on urban service routes or long distance coach tours can be a highly satisfying experience. It is a challenging role at whatever level but can be extremely rewarding both personally and financially.
If you are interested in starting on the first step up the ladder of transport management, you need to consider how your CV looks to a potential employer. Whilst you may have an impressive raft of transferable skills that were honed in your Service environment, you will also need to possess certain qualifications that are industry relevant.
We have suggested essential and optional courses that will enhance your transport management portfolio.
The CPC for Passenger Transport Operation should be held by anyone applying for an Operator’s Licence or anyone aspiring to be a passenger transport manager in the bus and coach industry. The qualification prepares an individual for all the legal and technical aspects of passenger transport operation in the UK.
For those organisations that move passengers internationally, the CPC Passenger International is an essential qualification for the transport manager. It covers all the growing EU and international based elements of passenger transport. The National CPC has to be taken prior to, or alongside, the International CPC, giving a combined course length of two weeks.
In an increasingly legislation bound workplace possession of a First Aid qualification is invaluable. Upon successful completion of this course a HSE approved certificate is awarded.
The Customer Service / Health and Safety programme covers areas not usually high on the Service leavers CV. In the civilian world the customer is king and health and safety is a major determinant of management success. This course aims to “fast track” the Service leaver through the main points of both areas.
