Fork Lift Truck Instructor Courses – Forthcoming Changes

Wednesday December 2016

It has recently been announced by RTITB of the changes coming in January 2017 for those candidates who attend the Fork Lift Truck Instructor courses.

These Fork Lift Truck Instructor / Examiner courses are aimed at individuals who are interested in becoming an instructor to be able to deliver an operators course on a Counterbalance lift truck and any other mechanical handling equipment the individual has an operators licence in.

The changes coming into place in January 2017 relate to the issuing of results.  Currently the trainee individual is provided a score out of 100 with a pass mark of 70 for practical and 80 for theory, however in the New Year the results issued will simply be a Pass or Fail!

This change has come about to avoid ‘disappointing’ the candidates who have passed but not with the score they so long wished for.  It is felt that passing the standard to become an Instructor is a huge achievement and this should be focused on and not the actual score they attained.

The down side to this however is the lack of numerical information available on how far away from the pass mark was an individual who do not meet the required standard.

We will monitor these changes and provide RTITB feedback with a view of operating in the best interest of the learner.
